Use Google maps to identify an area where a dam could be made. If a dam could be built it would help reduce the flooding effect by holding water. This would also help the local farming industry in times of droughts.
One location that I liked the look of was Alton Downs. The river seems to make a loop here; if a dam was built off to the side then water could be redirected into it.
